An Atheist's Faith?

Ever wondered what makes some atheists tick? Maybe they also wonder what makes some Christians tick. Lord knows, sometimes I wonder about some Christians too. If all that I had to go on was what I saw in others, maybe I'd be an atheist too. LOL. Thankfully, there's more to it than that.

Someone once said, “It takes too much faith to be an atheist.” While I am sure that whoever it was that first coined that phrase, they probably did so rather tongue-in-cheek. Still, maybe there is a measure of truth in it after all.

Believe it or not, I am really not trying to be contentious, but consider the following statement attributed to professing atheist, Stephen Hawking:
“I believe the simplest explanation is, there is no God. No one created the universe and no one directs our fate. This leads me to the profound realization that there probably is no heaven and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe and for that, I am extremely grateful.” (Source)
When my brother first shared this quote with me, along with it he asked one simple question:
“If there is no God, then whose design is it?”
Good question. With all due respect, care to address my brother's question, Mr. Hawking? Maybe atheism does, ironically, require a significant measure of faith as well. Maybe in the end the atheist is just as religious as he/she labels other people of faith. After all, how can one have a “grand design” without also having a grand Designer? Hmm.
“For that which is known about God is evident to them and made plain in their inner consciousness, because God [Himself] has shown it to them. For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernable in and through the things that have been made (His handiworks). So [men] are without excuse [altogether without any defense or justification].” (Romans 1: 19-20; Amplified)
Could it be that the more the atheist tries to disprove the existence of God, the more he/she actually speaks for God’s existence? I wonder sometimes. Peace.
